The home of Nashville’s multi-level Old Glory bar — the abandoned boiler room of an industrial building in Edgehill Village — offered an array of original industrial details, including a section of the original freestanding smokestack, a coal chute and steel beams galore. The Powell team’s goal was to keep that industrial palette, while weaving in classical elements, taking what was the home of one of the largest steam-cleaning businesses in Nashville and transforming it into a forward-looking cocktail lounge with lots of cool and a fitting bit of glamour. The spectacular height of the space at 85 feet brought a big palette and big possibilities, allowing the design to literally and figuratively stretch, with furnishings and fixtures that stand tall and demand attention, from the extended custom brass stair rails to tooled leather and walnut booths that reach for the circa-1920 rafters. A plant wall was added to bring in a punch of green to juxtapose the industrial natural of the space.
