Fender
In the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, Powell has design and built the new headquarters for renowned musical instrument manufacturer, Fender. Designed to meld with the city's pulsating artistic energy, this new space becomes an active participant in the city's music culture, while sparking inspiration in the upcoming generations of musicians.
The distinctive architecture of the building carries a resonance of charm, made strikingly unique with an amalgamation of dark metallic glazed brick. This bold design feature juxtaposes sharply against the expansive factory-style steel windows, creating a dynamic dialogue of light, shadow, and reflections that lend the building its unique appeal. Cedar wood, warm and textured, is incorporated subtly to ease the soffit overhangs, adding a tactile layer of warmth to the external structure.
Inside, the Nashville headquarters divide into two unique areas: a specialized woodworking studio and an artist relations/office space. The ground floor is home to the Fender Woodshop, the pulsating creative hub where guitar prototypes and bespoke creations are painstakingly sculpted and fine-tuned.
The first floor comes alive as a lively nerve center for Artist Relations. This vibrant area offers artists a space to immerse themselves in Fender's extensive collection, engage in discussions about custom projects, and experiment with a diverse range of instruments. It also includes a well-equipped kitchen, a conference room, and a workspace, all bathed in the natural light flooding in from the large windows.
The interior decor centers around large-plank white oak flooring, stained to infuse a sense of warmth. This is offset by custom walnut guitar displays, creating an intriguing aesthetic contrast. A wall tribute to Nashville's Hatch Show Print is rich with letter-pressed style elements, amplifying the iconic presence of the Fender brand. The complete space emanates the laid-back vibe of a mid-century recording studio, heightened by a retro-inspired color palette of blues and yellows, punctuated with bursts of Fender's signature red.
Fender’s new headquarters stand as an embodiment of harmonious fusion between function and aesthetics. With its distinguishing features and innovative design, it makes a lasting impression, proudly standing as a landmark of architectural creativity and innovation.
