O-Ku Sushi

Located in Nashville's historic Germantown neighborhood, Indigo Road’s second local concept, O-Ku, takes inspiration from both traditional Japanese culture and the turn-of-the-century homes that line the nearby streets. To balance those aesthetics, Powell Architecture + Building Studio paired sleek and modern lines with materials that come alive with personality and texture: white-washed brick walls; rustic, handmade tile; saw-marked wood of multiple species and tones; and lilac leather. Throughout, that harmony defines the space. A bright pop of linear, red-brick tile draws attention to the sushi bar, where diners perch under calming, locally made smoked-glass pendants. Soft lighting floats above cozy booth seating, set apart by bold, custom steel panels. A sentry line of organic branches leads toward a geometric, faux-bois backdrop. The result elegantly evokes the Japanese concept of wabi sabi: the perfect beauty found in imperfection.
