For the first Nashville location of Char Restaurant, Powell was charged to design and build this southern-style modern steakhouse. The design was a departure from other Char locations and sets the tone for an upscale, yet cozy neighborhood bar and restaurant located in Green Hills. With unique features like a live jazz brunch and a permanent pianist, Powell wanted to up the vibe with unique plays on scale in architecture and lighting. A classic palette is reiterated with dark wood, marble bar, black and white hex tile, houndstooth carpet and brass lighting throughout. Historic black and white architectural photography of Green Hills accents the walls. Local artists were engaged to create a gold leafed mirror map of Nashville in the main dining room, and pops of red in furniture and custom booths provide a cheeky nod to the steakhouse style.
